Saltine Toffee
Description
The recipe spreads a single layer of salted saltine crackers in a rimmed baking pan lined with parchment. Butter and dark brown sugar are boiled together to form a toffee, which is poured evenly over the crackers. After baking briefly to set the toffee, chocolate chips are sprinkled over, allowed to soften, and then spread into a smooth layer. Chopped pecans and sea salt can be added to enhance texture and flavor.
After cooling at room temperature, the candy is chilled or frozen to harden further before breaking into pieces. The dark brown sugar provides a deeper caramel flavor compared to light brown sugar. Bittersweet chocolate chips add balance by keeping sweetness moderate.
This toffee is suitable for gifting, snacking, or as a dessert component, offering a blend of salty, sweet, buttery, and chocolatey flavors with crisp, crunchy textures.
