Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich with Maple Butter

This recipe prepares hearty breakfast sandwiches featuring savory pork sausage patties, folded eggs, melted cheddar cheese, and toasted English muffins spread with a maple-infused butter. The combination balances rich pork and egg flavors with sweet maple butter, creating a flavorful, satisfying sandwich with layers of texture from the crisp sausage and soft eggs.

Description

The breakfast sandwich includes homemade pork sausage patties cooked until golden and crisp, folded eggs cooked to a soft but fully set texture, and sharp cheddar cheese slices melted on top. Muffin halves are toasted and spread with a smooth butter mixed with pure maple syrup, adding a subtle sweetness to counterbalance the savory elements.

Assembly involves layering the maple butter, egg, sausage, and cheese on toasted English muffins, then briefly microwaving to melt the cheese perfectly. The sausage adds crispness while the eggs provide a tender layer. The maple butter gives a unique sweet-savory counterpoint that enhances the sandwich's overall flavor.

Served immediately after preparation, these sandwiches are ideal for a filling breakfast or brunch. The maple butter can be made in advance and stored, and the sandwich components come together quickly on the day of serving.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz pork sausage
  • 4 egg large
  • 4 lices cheddar cheese
  • 4 English Muffin halved
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened, salted
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. 1. Form sausage into 4 patties. Cook in a large, non-stick sprayed skillet over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes a side, or until golden brown and crisp. Place sausage patties on a paper towel-lined plate to drain the grease.
  2. 2. Drain fat from skillet then return to stove and turn heat down to medium. Whisk eggs, salt, and pepper in a bowl then pour into the skillet. Cook until top is nearly set but still glossy, then carefully fold eggs over in half. Remove from heat to finish cooking.
  3. 3. In a small bowl, whisk butter until creamy and smooth. Stir in the maple syrup. Toast the English Muffins.
  4. 4. To assemble: Spread 1 tablespoon of maple butter on English Muffin, both halves. Place 1 egg on the bottom of a English muffin then top with cooked sausage patty and slice of cheese. Microwave for 20-30 seconds to melt cheese then cap with English muffin top. Continue making other sandwiches. Serve immediately.
