Sausage Mummies
Description
This recipe wraps eight sausages with strips of puff pastry and bakes them at 200°C until the pastry is golden and cooked through. The pastry is cut into narrow strips and wrapped loosely or snugly around the sausages according to preference. After baking, edible eyes are attached using small dots of honey, adding a playful mummy appearance.
The combination of warm, flaky pastry with savory sausage is an easy-to-make treat that appeals to all ages. Careful handling of the pastry and allowing the sausages to cool slightly before removing from the baking tray prevent the delicate pastry from breaking. The honey acts as an adhesive to keep the edible eyes in place.

Ingredients
- 8 sausages
- 90 g puff pastry
- 1 egg whisked
- 16 edible eyes
- 1 teaspoon honey
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C(fan)/400°F/Gas 6.
- Cut 90 g Puff pastry into strips of 1.5cm/0.5in thick.
- Wrap a strip of pastry around each of the 8 Sausages. Line a baking tray and place the wrapped sausages on it. Brush with 1 Egg (whisked).
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
- Using the end of a teaspoon handle, put a dot of the 1 teaspoon Honey on the back of 16 Edible eyes and stick them to the sausages.
Notes
- Let the puff pastry rest for 15 minutes at room temperature before cutting to avoid cracking.
- Adjust the amount of pastry wrapping per sausage to your liking, whether tightly wrapped or more open.
- Allow the sausage mummies to cool for a few minutes before removing from the baking tray to keep the pastry intact.
- Place edible eyes in spaces on the pastry for support to prevent them from falling off during baking or handling.
