Ingredients
- 1 pie crust uncooked
- 3/4 pound sausage crumbled
- 1/2 yellow onion diced, small
- 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese shredded sharp
- 4 egg large
- 1 cup half-and-half or whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder dry
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie pan, pressing it firmly against the sides and bottom. Parbake the crust if desired.
- Heat a skillet to medium. Crumble the sausage into the skillet and add the onions, stirring until the sausage is browned and the onions have softened and released their moisture. Drain off any fat or moisture, and pat the cooked mixture with paper towel to remove any remaining liquid.
- Evenly distribute the cooked sausage and onions over the crust. Then evenly sprinkle the cheese over the sausage and onions.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half (or milk), dry mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Carefully pour the egg mixture evenly over the sausage, onions, and cheese in the pie crust.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Then, without opening the oven door, reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for 35 minutes until the quiche is set and the top is golden brown.
- Let the quiche rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve hot.
