Sautéed Broccoli
Sautéed Broccoli is a simple vegetable side featuring broccoli florets cooked with olive oil, thinly sliced garlic, sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. The broccoli is briefly steamed in its own moisture after initial sautéing to become tender yet retain a slight bite. A finish of lemon juice and optional red pepper flakes adds brightness and gentle heat. This quick preparation highlights the natural flavor and texture of broccoli without heavy sauces.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 2 garlic thinly sliced, cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt sea salt
- black pepper freshly ground
- lemon for squeezing, wedge
- red pepper flakes optional
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the broccoli, garlic, salt, and several grinds of pepper and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons water, cover, and cook until the broccoli is tender, 2 to 4 more minutes.
- Turn off the heat. Squeeze with lemon juice and sprinkle with red pepper flakes, if using. Season to taste with more salt and pepper.
