Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese divided
  • 3 pounds potatoes peeled and thinly sliced

  1. Preheat the oven to 375. Grease a 9 x 13 baking dish.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook 2-3 minutes, until golden. Add the milk a little at a time, whisking constantly, until smooth. Cook until thickened and bubbling, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in the salt, pepper, and 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
  3. Layer half of the potatoes evenly in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the top, spreading evenly. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of cheese over the top of the sauce. Layer the other half of the potatoes, followed by the remaining sauce, and the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese.
  4. Bake 45-60 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and easily pierced with a fork. Let stand 10-15 minutes before serving.
