Ingredients

  • 12 pieces hawaiian rolls
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • ½ onion chopped, white, yellow, sweet or purple
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ¾ cup tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted, salted
  • sesame seeds optional

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray the bottom of a 9x13 baking sheet with spray cooking oil.
  2. Place olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, allowing it to warm Add the ground beef, salt and pepper. Break up the meat as it browns until fully cooked and no longer pink, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the onions, garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture and stir well. Cook until the onions become soft, about 2-3 minutes. Sprinkle the cheese over the meat mixture, then stir and cook until it melts and the mixture thickens, about 1 minute, then set the pan to the side.
  4. Slice the rolls in half the long way into sandwiches, a large serrated knife works well for these soft buns.  You should have a connected sheet of bun tops and bottoms when you are finished. Place the bottom buns on the prepared pan.
  5. Spread the sloppy joe beef mixture on the bottom portion of the rolls. Top with the sloppy joe mixture with the tops of the slider rolls.
  6. Using a silicone brush, brush the melted butter over the tops of the buns generously. Be sure to get the tops and the sides. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top of the buns if desired.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the buns are golden brown. Then serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can leave the cheese out of the meat mixture if you prefer, and layer it on top of the meat mixture before adding the top bun. The cheese does help the sliders to stick together a little more. They will be a little messier if you leave it out of the recipe.
  • A baking sheet can be used or a glass baking dish or ceramic baking pan can be used as long as it fits the sliders. I often line mine with aluminum foil before spraying with cooking oil, or use parchment paper and no extra oil.
