Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe
Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala features boneless chicken thighs simmered with a mix of garam masala, cumin, turmeric, paprika, and tomato sauce. Slow cooking tenderizes the chicken, which is then combined with cream for a smooth, spiced tomato sauce. Served over cooked rice with fresh cilantro, this recipe balances rich and aromatic flavors suited for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. chicken thigh boneless, skinless
- 1.5 Tbsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 yellow onion diced
- 2 teaspoon garlic minced
- 1 Tbsp ginger grated fresh
- 15 oz. tomato sauce
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 4 cups rice cooked
- 1/4 cilantro bunch fresh
Instructions
- Place the chicken in the crock pot.
- Season with the garam masala, cumin, turmeric, paprika, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the spice mix over both sides of the chicken thighs, coating them liberally.
- Place the onion on top.
- In a small bowl combine the tomato sauce, garlic, and ginger.
- Pour on top.
- place the lid on top, and turn the slow cooker on. Cook on high for 3 hours or low for 6 hours.
- When done, the chicken should be fall-apart tender.Break apart the chicken into big chunks.
- Turn the slow cooker off, then add the heavy cream. Stir gently to combine the cream with the tomato sauce. Taste the sauce and add salt if needed.
- To serve, spoon the chicken and tomato sauce over cooked rice and top with fresh cilantro.
