Ingredients

  • 2 cups walnuts
  • ¾ cup maple syrup
  • 1 tsp chilly flakes
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ tsp olive oil
  • 1.5 teaspoon black salt

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. I have a bowl of walnuts and I show them sun for 15 minutes for removing any odor. While you prep, you may heat OTG at 100°C for about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, combine black salt, black pepper, nutmeg, red chili flakes, maple syrup, and just a little olive oil.
  3. Pour the seasoning mix over the walnuts and toss well to coat each piece evenly.
  4. Spread the coated walnuts on a baking tray in a single layer on a greased parchment paper and roast for 5-8 minutes in OTG, stirring halfway through. Keep an eye as maple syrup will start bubbling up. That's the time when you should switch off the OTG or the walnuts may get over-roasted
  5. Let the roasted walnuts cool completely, and enjoy as a snack or add them to your salad or desserts.

Notes

  • I have used OTG and it is very quick in roasting. Roasting walnuts in an oven typically takes about 10-12 minutes, which is longer than in an OTG. I think OTG took about 5-8 minutes with 10 minutes of pre heating.
  • Make sure that the spices are coated well on each walnut piece.
  • Let the walnuts cool off before transferring to jar for storage.
  • They can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks at room temperature.
