Ingredients
- 1.25 Pounds ground beef
- ½ sweet onion diced
- 2 jalapeños diced
- 12 Ounce spicy tomato sauce like Arrabbiata
- 1 Tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 Tablespoons mustard Yellow or Spicy
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt Or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- Fried Jalapenos Option topping
- 6 hamburger buns
Instructions
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil and butter over medium-high heat.
- Add the chopped jalapeno and onion to the skillet and cook until just softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the skillet. Stir well to combine and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- While the sauce simmers, prepare your hamburger buns. Toast them lightly if desired.
- Spoon the warm sloppy joe mixture onto the buns and top with the optional fried jalapenos or your favorite toppings.
