Ingredients

  • 3 steak fillets
  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • ½ red pepper
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Rocket salad (arugula salad)
  • 2 Mini Baguettes
  • 2 lices cheese ( I used dairylea cheese)

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Cut the steak fillets into strips.
  2. In a frying pan set over a medium to high heat, heat up the oil, add the steak strips, season with salt and pepper, and cook on each side for maximum 2 minutes or until well seared - work in batches if the pan is smaller.
  3. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add more oil if necessary.
  5. Peel and cut the onion julienne, lower the heat to low to medium, and fry the onions until golden.
  6. Add the peeled and chopped garlic and pepper cut julienne, and stir fry for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Add the steak back to the pan, season to taste with salt and pepper.
  8. Cut the baguettes in half horizontally, then arrange the cheese slices, top with salad, then the steak mixture.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • The steak doesn't take long to cook - if you like it medium rare, it doesn't need to cook for longer than maximum 2 minutes. But even if you like it well cooked, it shouldn't take longer than 4 minutes, otherwise the meat is pretty tough.
  • Work in batches if necessary - if you crowd the pan with the steak strips, they won't brown nicely anymore - they cook quickly anyway.
