Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh strawberries rinsed, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

Prepare the Berries:

  1. First, rinse, pat dry, and then hull and slice the berries. Please place them in a medium saucepan.
How to Make Strawberry Sauce:
  1. Next, add the sugar, lemon juice, and zest. Stir well to combine.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and boil, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for 20-30 minutes or until thickened. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Cool to room temperature. The sauce will thicken slightly as it cools and even more once refrigerated.
