Ingredients
- 10-12 Cabbage leaves
- 1 cup cooked brown rice
- 1 egg beaten
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ cup onion chopped fine
- 1 pound extra-lean ground turkey meat ground beef or ground pork
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- 4 cloves of garlic minced
- 16 ounces tomato sauce 2 8-oz cans
- 14.5 ounces diced or crushed tomatoes with liquid
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F
- In a large pot, boil the entire head of cabbage for 10 minutes. (remove the core first) If any leaves separate during boiling, just remove them with a fork.
- Drain the cabbage and cool. Then peel away 10-12 leaves when cool.
- In a large bowl, combine the rice, raw ground meat, egg, milk, onion, garlic powder and pepper.
- Scoop a ¼ cup of this mixture into the center of each cabbage leaf and roll them up, tucking the ends in well.
- Place them in a lightly greased 9x13 baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees F.
