Sweet Chili Sauce

Homemade sweet chili sauce is the perfect dipping sauce to serve with chicken, seafood, and fried appetizers. A deliciously sweet and sour condiment full of Thai-inspired flavors, sugar, vinegar, and red chili paste.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rice vinegar unseasonsed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sambal oelek (storebought chili garlic paste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, or 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Combine the rice vinegar, water, sugar, soy sauce, sambal oelek, garlic, and ginger in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Stir regularly until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Whisk together the cornstarch and remaining water in a small bowl. Add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan. Stir continually until thickened, about 1 minute.
  4. Let the sauce cool completely, pour into an airtight jar and store in the refrigerator.
  5. Makes about 1 cup of sauce.
