Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine tomato sauce, water, white vinegar, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, sugar, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency. Season with salt to taste.
  4. Remove the sauce from heat and allow it to cool before transferring to a jar or container for storage.
