Taco Seasoning
Taco Seasoning is a versatile spice blend featuring chili powder, cumin, oregano, onion and garlic powders, smoked paprika, and salt. Optional crushed red pepper or cayenne adds heat. This homemade mix offers a balanced flavor to season taco meat or other dishes.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. chili powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. cumin ground
- 1 tsp. oregano dried
- 1 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. smoked paprika (or regular)
- 1/2 tsp. salt (more/less as desired)
Optional spicy additions:
- crushed red pepper flakes 1/4 tsp; or a dash of cayenne pepper; or ground chipotle
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a small bowl or jar. Stir or shake until thoroughly combined.
- Use immediately or store in an airtight container for later use. (It keeps for several months.)
Notes
- This recipe makes approximately 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning; multiply quantities if more is needed.
- Store the seasoning blend in an airtight container in a cool, dry place like a pantry to maintain freshness.
- American-style mild chili powder is used for balanced flavor.
