Tater Tots Chaat
Tater Tots Chaat layers crispy air-fried tater tots over lightly spiced chickpeas with a yogurt dressing sweetened with sugar and salt. Finished with green and tamarind chutneys, sev, diced red onion, and an array of aromatic Indian spices, the dish offers crunchy, creamy, sweet, and tangy flavors in every bite. Fresh cilantro adds brightness to this snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 1 oz chickpeas rinsed and drained, canned
- 2 cups tater tots frozen
- 2 cups PLAIN yogurt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ cup green chutney
- ½ cup tamarind chutney
- ½ cup sev fine
- ¼ cup red onion finely diced
- 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder sprinkle to taste
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder sprinkle to taste
- 1 teaspoon chat masala sprinkle to taste
- ¼ cup cilantro chopped
Instructions
- Air Fry Tater tots at 400 F for 12 minutes.
- In a serving platter add the chickpeas. Season them lightly with salt and red chili powder.
- Layer the air-fried tater tots on top of the chickpeas.
- Add sugar and salt to the yogurt and whisk it well. Pour the yogurt all over the tater tots.
- Drizzle the green chutney and tamarind chutney on top.
- Sprinkle sev and onions.
- Sprinkle half of the red chili powder, cumin powder, and chat masala on top.
- Garnish with cilantro. Serve immediately. Add more ground spices if needed.
Notes
- Traditional Aloo chaat excludes chickpeas, so omit them if preferred.
- Dairy-free yogurt substitutes work to make this chaat vegan.
- If you lack an air fryer, you can cook tater tots in the oven following package instructions.
- Adjust the amounts of chutneys, yogurt, and spices to suit your personal taste preferences.
