Description

This Tater Tots Chaat recipe starts by air frying frozen tater tots until crispy. Rinsed canned chickpeas are seasoned simply with salt and red chili powder and placed as the first layer. The hot tater tots go on top, followed by a yogurt mixture sweetened with sugar and lightly salted. Drizzles of green chutney and tamarind chutney create layers of herbal freshness and tangy sweetness.

To finish, sev (fine crunchy noodles made from chickpea flour), finely diced red onion, and a mix of spices like Kashmiri red chili powder, cumin powder, and chaat masala are sprinkled over the top. Chopped cilantro adds a fresh herbal note.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz chickpeas rinsed and drained, canned
  • 2 cups tater tots frozen
  • 2 cups PLAIN yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ cup green chutney
  • ½ cup tamarind chutney
  • ½ cup sev fine
  • ¼ cup red onion finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder sprinkle to taste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder sprinkle to taste
  • 1 teaspoon chat masala sprinkle to taste
  • ¼ cup cilantro chopped

Instructions

  1. Air Fry Tater tots at 400 F for 12 minutes.
  2. In a serving platter add the chickpeas. Season them lightly with salt and red chili powder.
  3. Layer the air-fried tater tots on top of the chickpeas.
  4. Add sugar and salt to the yogurt and whisk it well. Pour the yogurt all over the tater tots.
  5. Drizzle the green chutney and tamarind chutney on top.
  6. Sprinkle sev and onions.
  7. Sprinkle half of the red chili powder, cumin powder, and chat masala on top.
  8. Garnish with cilantro. Serve immediately. Add more ground spices if needed.
