This easy homemade teriyaki sauce blends soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, honey, sesame oil, and mirin thickened with cornstarch and water. The result is a glossy, flavorful glaze with sweet, savory, and slightly tangy notes suitable for glazing meats, vegetables, or as a dipping sauce.

- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1.5 teaspoon ginger (grated)
- 4 garlic finely minced, cloves
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 3 tablespoon mirin (see notes below)
Instructions
- In a small sauce pot mix together the water and cornstarch. Whisk or stir with a fork until smooth.
- Add all remaining ingredients to the sauce pot and stir to combine.
- Cook on medium heat until the mixture begins to boil and thicken.
- Cook for 5-10 minutes until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Cool and store in an air tight jar in the fridge for up to 7 days and use in your favorite recipes.
Notes
- Mirin is a Japanese sweet rice wine adding mild acidity and umami; if unavailable, substitute with 3 tablespoons water mixed with 1 teaspoon white sugar.

- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
