The Best Buttermilk Waffles

Buttermilk waffles are a classic breakfast recipe that is a family favorite! Fluffy and light on the inside with a crispy golden outside...buttermilk just makes everything better!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, scooped and leveled
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup Butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  1. In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine.
  2. In another medium-sized bowl, add the buttermilk, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk together until the eggs are incorporated.
  3. Pour the wet egg mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients and whisk just until combined. Be careful not to overmix. You may have a few lumps and that's ok.
  4. Allow the batter to rest for 10 minutes. Preheat your waffle iron while your batter rests.
  5. The amount of batter you use depends on the size of your waffle iron. For example, for an 8-inch round waffle iron, use about 1/3 cup batter. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes. My waffle iron has a green light that comes on when my waffle is done. Go ahead and cook your waffle to however crisp you like it! Repeat the cooking process until all of your waffles are made.
  6. Top warm waffles with syrup, berries, or powdered sugar and enjoy!
