The Best Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

This tasty scalloped potatoes recipe is comfort food defined. Baked until bubbly, it features perfectly sliced potatoes topped with a creamy, cheesy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium potatoes
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Mozzarella, cheddar or Mexican

  1. In a deep pan, melt the butter and add in the diced onion. Sauté the onion on low heat until transluscent.
  2. Add in the flour to the pan and sauté it for about a minute to cook out the raw taste. Add in the milk and whisk until smooth.
  3. Season the cream sauce with salt and pepper. Set it aside.
  4. Peel and slice the potatoes. Assemble them in a 9x13 in. baking dish (or round 10 in. pan), using a scalloped pattern.
  5. Pour the sauce over the potatoes.
  6. Top the potatoes with cheese and cover the baking dish with a lid or some foil. Bake the potatoes at 400°F for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the lid or foil and bake the potatoes for another 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is lightly golden brown. Dig in and enjoy!
