This Thick and Rich Hot Chocolate combines cocoa powder, espresso, and finely chopped semisweet chocolate into a creamy single-serving drink. Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 12g
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder 7g
  • 1/4 teaspoon espresso powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2/3 cup milk any percentage
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 ounces semisweet chocolate chopped, high-quality chips are fine*
  • Whipped Cream optional for topping

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, combine sugar, cocoa powder, espresso powder, salt, and water. Whisk over medium-high heat until smooth. Whisk in milk and cream and heat until steaming.
  2. Turn heat down to medium and stir in chocolate until melted and smooth.
  3. Transfer to a cup and serve topped with whipped cream if desired and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use about 2 ounces (1/3 cup) of chocolate chips for the semisweet chocolate in this recipe.
  • For a decorative chocolate drizzle, melt 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped chocolate with 1 1/2 teaspoons cream or milk, microwave briefly, stir smooth, and drizzle atop the hot chocolate.
