Thick and Rich Hot Chocolate for One
This Thick and Rich Hot Chocolate combines cocoa powder, espresso, and finely chopped semisweet chocolate into a creamy single-serving drink. The mixture is whisked to smoothness and gently heated with milk and cream, creating a velvety texture with a rich chocolate flavor accented by a hint of espresso. It's an indulgent beverage served optionally with whipped cream for extra richness.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 12g
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder 7g
- 1/4 teaspoon espresso powder
- Pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2/3 cup milk any percentage
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 2 ounces semisweet chocolate chopped, high-quality chips are fine*
- Whipped Cream optional for topping
Instructions
- In a small pot, combine sugar, cocoa powder, espresso powder, salt, and water. Whisk over medium-high heat until smooth. Whisk in milk and cream and heat until steaming.
- Turn heat down to medium and stir in chocolate until melted and smooth.
- Transfer to a cup and serve topped with whipped cream if desired and enjoy!
Notes
- Use about 2 ounces (1/3 cup) of chocolate chips for the semisweet chocolate in this recipe.
- For a decorative chocolate drizzle, melt 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped chocolate with 1 1/2 teaspoons cream or milk, microwave briefly, stir smooth, and drizzle atop the hot chocolate.
