Thousand Island Dressing
Thousand Island Dressing is a creamy mixture of mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, minced hard-boiled egg, and fresh seasonings. The dressing features a smooth texture with a balance of tangy, sweet, and savory flavors. It’s versatile for salads or as a spread and improves in flavor when chilled for several hours.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 Tablespoon sweet pickle relish or finely chopped pickle
- 1 egg minced or pressed through a sieve, hard-boiled
- 1 Tablespoon onion minced
- 2 teaspoon parsley finely chopped, fresh
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, egg, onion, parsley and lemon juice and seasonings in a mixing bowl and blend well. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Add more chopped pickle and lemon juice as desired.
- You can serve the dressing immediately, but it tastes even better if refrigerated in a covered container for several hours. It will keep for about 5-7 days in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Use fresh lemon juice rather than bottled for brighter, more vibrant flavor.
- Check smoked paprika freshness by crushing a small amount to ensure it releases aroma; stale paprika should be replaced.
- Full-fat mayonnaise lends a richer taste, but you can substitute with low-fat or non-fat varieties if preferred.
