Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 8 ounces mini pretzels
- 2 cups chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup Heath Bar Bits *
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange the mini pretzels (or saltine crackers) in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches a boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Pour the toffee mixture over the pretzels, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake in the oven for 5 minutes and make sure the toffee is bubbling and golden.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips over the toffee layer. Return to the oven and let melt for 1 minute. Then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
- Sprinkle your choice of festive toppings over the melted chocolate. I suggest Heath bar bits for extra toffee flavor.
- Allow the Christmas crack to cool and set-up completely before breaking it into pieces. I suggest placing it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
- Store in an airtight container and room temperature.

Notes
- Tips:
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: Choose good-quality chocolate, fresh butter, and high-grade pretzels for the best flavor. I suggest using Ghirardelli or Guittard if possible.
- Experiment with Toppings: Get creative with your toppings! Crushed candy canes, Heath bar toffee bits, mini M & M's, or even a drizzle of white chocolate.
- Perfect the Toffee: Achieve the ideal toffee consistency by ensuring it reaches a proper boil. Be patient during this step for the best results.
- Cooling is Key: Allow the Christmas crack to cool thoroughly before breaking it into pieces. This ensures a clean break and prevents a gooey mess. I suggest placing it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
