Traditional Stuffing Recipe

This Traditional Stuffing Recipe is delicious! With a name like "Traditional stuffing," you might think that this recipe is complicated with a lot of steps but its NOT! Its very easy to put together and its a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 celery rib choped
  • ½ onion choped
  • 3 cloves garlic choped
  • 1 lb sausage
  • ½ teaspoon thyme choped
  • ½ teaspoon sage chopped
  • 2 loaves French Bread cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 3-5 hard boiled eggs chopped
  • 2 ½ cup chicken stock
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Chop Celery, Onion, Garlic, Thyme, and Sage and set aside.
  3. In a pan over medium head cook sausage until it is cooked through. Make sure that they sausage is ground up into small pieces.
  4. Remove the sausage from the pan and add onion and celery. Cook the celery and onion in the left over fat from the sausage. Cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Once the onion and celery are translucent, add the garlic, thyme, and sage and sauté for another minute. Once these are cooked set aside.
  6. Cut up the french bread into 1-inch cubes, and add to a bowl.
  7. Add your cooked sausage, cooked celery and onion to the bowl with the bread.
  8. Chop up hard-boiled eggs and add to the bread mixture.
  9. add salt and pepper to taste
  10. Slowly pour over chicken stock 1 cup at a time allowing it to sit for a few minutes in between.
  11. Mix the bread mixture.
  12. Pour the bread mixture into a baking dish, and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  13. Remove and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • I like to use Neeses sausage!  I think that its the best sausage you can get.  
  • Using fresh thyme and sage is great and adds a nice herby taste but you can use dried if you can't find fresh. 
  • You can add as much celery, and onion as you like!  I don't care for celery so I only added 1 rib but you can add more or less depending on your taste.
