Twinkie Layered Cake

Anyone who loves Twinkies is going to love this easy to make Twinkie Cake recipe. With a vanilla cake, homemade vanilla frosting and then a pourable frosting to decorate the sides. The cake is topped with Twinkies with layers of Twinkies inside.

Ingredients

Vanilla Cake
  • 2 boxes vanilla cake mix
  • 6 large egg whites
  • 2 C water
  • 1 C canola oil
  • 3 - 9 inch round cake pans
  • 1 - 10 inch round cake board
Vanilla Frosting
  • 3 C unsalted butter softened
  • 6 C powdered sugar
  • 5 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 small container of Vanilla premade frosting
  • 1 medium piping bag with star tip
  • 1 Squeeze bottle
  • 1 box of twinkies

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and spray cake pans with pam baking spray
  2. Using a hand mixer and large bowl, beat all cake ingredients until
  3. combined and smooth
  4. Divide the cake batter into the 3 cake pans
  5. Place into the oven and back for 28-32 minutes or until a toothpick
  6. comes out clean
  7. Allow to cool completely
Frosting directions
    Cup of Yum
  1. Using a standing mixer, beat all ingredients until combined and smooth
  2. but stiff with peaks
  3. Scoop 1 C into the piping bag with star tip
  4. Cut about 3 twinkies in chunks and set aside
  5. Cut about 3-4 twinkies in half for topping decorations
Building the Cake directions :
  1. Place one cake layer onto the cake board and cut the dome off the cake
  2. to make an even layer
  3. Repeat step with other two layers
  4. Scoop 1 C of white frosting onto the bottom layer and spread evenly
  5. Evenly spread some chopped twinkies onto the layer of frosting and
  6. lightly press into the frosting
  7. Place the second cake layer on top and spread evenly 1 more cup of
  8. frosting and evenly spread remaining chopped twinkies onto the
  9. frosting layer
  10. Place the last layer of cake on top
  11. Use the remaining white frosting and frost entire cake
  12. Remove the film from the vanilla frosting container and place into the
  13. microwave for about 30 - 45 seconds or until almost a thick liquid.
  14. Pour some of the frosting into the squeeze bottle
  15. Using the squeeze bottle, pipe drips along the side of the cake
  16. Using the piping bag, pipe dollops of frosting onto the top of the cake
  17. Place the cut twinkies in between each dollop of frosting
