Vanilla Extract Homemade

Pure vanilla extract for all your baking needs. Pick your favorite flavor of whole vanilla beans and patiently extract the flavor into vodka or bourbon alcohol.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla Beans
  • vodka or bourbon
  • jars
  • Labels optional

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Clean jars with soap and water or put in dishwasher cycle and dry thoroughly.
  2. Slice beans to expose bean paste, but leave paste intact.
  3. Cut all the way down the bean leaving 1/4" of the bean at one end whole.
  4. Fold bean in half and place beans in your jar.
  5. Fill you jar with vodka or bourbon covering your beans. Secure jar and place in a cool dark place.
  6. Give you bottle a shake once a week for 6 - 8 weeks.

Notes

  • Since you jar size may vary, a general rule to follow is 3 beans to 1 cup of vodka. I used 1 1/2 beans for each 4 ounce jar.
