Vietnamese Peanut Dipping Sauce

The Vietnamese Peanut Dipping Sauce blends hoisin sauce, smooth peanut butter, and sambal chile paste to create a flavorful accompaniment commonly used with fresh spring rolls or grilled meats. Garlic sautéed in neutral oil forms the aromatic base, and crushed peanuts added at the end provide texture. The sauce thickens as it cools, delivering a rich and slightly spicy taste profile.

Description

This sauce combines neutral cooking oil, garlic, hoisin sauce, peanut butter, water, and sambal chile paste for a balanced mix of savory, sweet, and spicy flavors. Garlic is lightly browned in oil to release its fragrance before adding the wet ingredients. Bringing the sauce to a boil intensifies the flavors. Immediately after boiling, the heat is turned off and sambal chile paste is stirred in, ensuring its heat remains vibrant. As it cools, the sauce thickens, creating a texture suitable for dipping.

Traditionally, this dipping sauce accompanies Vietnamese dishes like fresh spring rolls, grilled meats, or tofu. The optional crushed peanuts sprinkled on top add crunch and deeper peanut flavor.
