Walking Tacos
Walking Tacos are a fun, handheld dish where seasoned ground beef is mixed with typical taco toppings and served inside a bag of crushed potato chips, usually Fritos or Nacho Cheese Doritos. The combination offers a pleasing contrast between the crunchy chips and savory, juicy meat and toppings. This portable twist on tacos makes it easy to customize toppings and enjoy a casual meal or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 oz taco seasoning envelope
- ¼ c. water
- 6 potato chips Fritos or Nacho Cheese Doritos, individual size bags
- lettuce toppings; diced tomato; shredded cheddar cheese; sliced black olives; diced avocado or guacamole; chopped onion; salsa or pico de gallo; etc

Instructions
- Prepare your taco meat by browning the hamburger in a large skillet until cooked through. Drain off any grease. Mix in taco seasoning and ¼ c. water. Stir until combined and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Prep toppings and place in individual bowls.
- You can serve on a large “board” arranging all the toppings on the board for a fun display.
- Each person will take a bag of chips, crush them, cut the top off the bag and then pile in their favorite toppings, mix it in the bag and eat!
Notes
- Arrange taco toppings in separate bowls with serving utensils to keep the assembly tidy and easy.
- Use a variety of colored toppings like red tomatoes, green lettuce, and black olives for a visually appealing presentation.
- Crush chips inside the bags just before serving to maintain freshness and crunch.
- If a serving board isn't available, use parchment paper or a baking sheet to keep the preparation area clean.
