Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 1/2 cups milk lukewarm
  • 5 tablespoons butter or 1/3 cup vegetable oil, melted

  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole-wheat flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the lukewarm milk and melted butter or vegetable oil.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Spoon the batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
