Wonton Apple Pies

Wonton Apple Pies are mini apple pies using crispy baked wonton wrappers as the crust, filled with a lightly sweetened and spiced diced Ambrosia apple filling simmered in butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water. The baked wonton cups provide a golden, crunchy contrast to the soft, syrupy apple filling. These handheld pies can be served as a warm dessert, optionally topped with ice cream for added creaminess.

Description

Wonton Apple Pies creatively use wonton wrappers as a quick and crisp crust alternative for small, individual apple pies. By baking two wonton wrappers in muffin tins sprayed with oil, a sturdy and crispy cup is formed. The apple filling is prepared by simmering diced Ambrosia apples with butter, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and a small amount of water until the fruit softens and the mixture thickens into a syrupy consistency. After cooling slightly, the filling is spooned into the baked wonton cups, which can be served warm or at room temperature.

The contrast between the flaky, golden wonton cups and the soft, warmly spiced apples highlights a balance of texture and flavor. Optionally, the pies can be topped with ice cream to add creaminess and temperature contrast for a comforting dessert experience.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • cooking spray

Apple Pie Filling

  • 4 cups Ambrosia apples diced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar organic
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water

Toppings

  • Ice cream optional

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven up to 350F
  2. In a muffin tin, place in two wonton wrappers per slot and spray it lightly with oil spray so the wontons crisp up evenly.
  3. Bake the wonton wrappers in the oven for approximately 10 minutes, until it's golden and crispy.
  4. While the wrappers are in the oven, get started with your apple pie filling by placing all the ingredients for the filling into a skillet (butter first). Let it simmer while stirring occasionally until the apples have soften and the liquid becomes almost like a syrup.
  5. Let everything cool a bit and assemble by spooning the apple pie filling into the wonton wrappers. Optional: top with ice cream!
