For the Soup

  • 1 Piece garlic clove
  • 1 Inch Ginger Fresh
  • ½ Inch Turmeric when fresh or else 1 teaspoon dried powder
  • Cups water
  • Cups broth *see Notes
  • 1 Piece bay leaf
  • ¼ Teaspoon Black Pepper Ground
  • pinch salt to taste
  • Teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2-3 Leaves sage dried or fresh
  • 5 Piece juniper berries
  • 1 Tablespoon Cilantro Fresh optional
  • juice of ½ lime or Lemon

Garnish

  • Cilantro Fresh or other greens

Instructions

  1. Prep your fresh ingredients. Peel garlic and chop roughly. Cut ginger and turmeric root roughly too. (if you don't have turmeric root, use turmeric spice powder).
  2. Heat up a small soup pot with the water and broth. Keep over medium heat setting.
  3. Add the cut ginger, garlic, and turmeric.
  4. Add in the remaining spices. The bay leaf, black pepper, salt, grated nutmeg, sage, and whole juniper berries.
  5. Stir in cilantro too if you choose to add it. Otherwise, skip this step.
  6. Keep simmering over a medium to low-heat setting. Cover and cook slowly for about 12–15 minutes.
  7. When it's done infusing, pour and mix in lime/lemon juice.
  8. Take from the heat, strain the soup with a large strainer.
  9. Pour the soup back to heat or serve hot in a bowl. You can top it with fresh herbs such as cilantro, parsley, chives.

Notes

  • As a base use, a broth of your choice can be homemade, carton, bouillon cubes mixed in hot water. Can be vegetable, chicken, beef etc. whichever you prefer.
  • You can get fresh turmeric roots here.
