7-Layer Dip Recipe
Description
This seven-layer dip is built by spreading seasoned refried beans at the base, followed by smooth guacamole and a taco-seasoned sour cream layer. Toppings include shredded cheese, fresh tomato dices, sliced black olives, chopped green onions, and cilantro, adding color, brightness, and differing textures. Heating the beans before spreading ensures easier layering.
The combination of layers creates a balanced dip with creamy, tangy, and fresh elements blending in each bite. It's designed for communal sharing and pairs naturally with tortilla chips for scooping.
Variations include adding cooked ground beef, Greek yogurt, diced peppers or jalapeños, homemade salsa with drained liquid, black beans, or corn, allowing customization of flavors and textures based on preference.
Ingredients
- 1 refried beans 16-oz can
- 3 Tbsp taco seasoning homemade, or 1 oz packet, divided
- 2 cups sour cream
- 2-3 cups guacamole homemade or storebought
- 2 cups Mexican-style cheese or cheddar cheese, shredded
- 4 Roma tomato diced (about 2 cups
- ½ to 1 cup black olive 2-4 oz, or added to preference, sliced
- ½ green onion ¼ cup) finely chopped, bunch
- ½ cilantro ¼ cup) finely chopped, small bunch
Instructions
- Heat the refried beans in a saucepan or in a bowl in the microwave until warm to soften them up and make spreading easier. Stir in half of the taco seasoning. Spread the beans into the bottom of a 9x13 glass casserole dish.
- Spread the guacamole over the beans.
- In a second small bowl, stir together sour cream and the remaining half of the taco seasoning. Spread the sour cream over the guacamole.
- Sprinkle on the cheese then tomatoes, black olives, green onions, and cilantro. Serve with tortilla chips for dipping.
Notes
- You can customize this dip by adding cooked ground beef or swapping sour cream with Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
- Diced bell peppers, jalapeños, or homemade salsa (drained) can be added for varied flavor and texture.
- Adding black beans or corn offers additional layers of taste and substance.
