Instructions
Air Fryer Instructions
- Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper.
- Cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl. Then add in the egg and beat together.
- Add the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt) and beat well before dividing the cookie dough into two mixing bowls.
- Add red food coloring to one bowl of cookie dough and blue to the other. Stir well until the colors are uniform throughout each of the cookie dough sections.
- Transfer cookie dough to a nonstick surface, and roll both colors of cookie dough out separately to a half-inch thickness.
- Place one of the cookie dough roll-outs on top of the other and then roll them together into a cookie roll shape.
- Slice the cookie dough into half-inch thick cookies using a sharp knife and transfer into your prepared air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 370 degrees F for 6-7 minutes or until they are lightly browned.
- Let cool, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Then frost your 4th of July cookies and add sprinkles!
Oven Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F / 180 degrees C. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Make cookie dough as directed above and transfer the cut-out cookies onto the prepared baking sheet, making sure to leave space between them.
- Bake for 9-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheet, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost cookies and top with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Notes
- If cookies lose their round shape during cutting, just carefully reform them.
- You can cream using a handheld mixer or a stand mixer if you prefer.
- You should also be able to make 4th of July cookies with cake mix, following the instructions on the box.
- For the best results, air fry these in a single layer in the Air Fryer with space around them so the hot air can circulate. You'll likely need to bake in several batches.
- Remember that air fryer temperatures can vary depending on the make and model. I recommend starting with less cook time, checking food for doneness then adding more time as needed.
- Storage - keep baked cookies in an airtight container on the counter for about a week.
