Air Fryer Chickpeas (No Oil)
Description
To prepare Air Fryer Chickpeas, canned chickpeas are drained, rinsed, and dried before being tossed with a balanced blend of warm and aromatic spices including garlic, onion, cumin, chili powder, cinnamon, and salt. Cooking in an air fryer at 350°F crisps the chickpeas evenly with periodic shaking to ensure all sides brown. The result is a crunchy, dry snack that holds its texture at room temperature for several days.
The chickpeas can be seasoned with other spice blends such as curry powder or zaatar for variety, or coated with dry packets like ranch flavoring. Tossing cooked chickpeas with parmesan powder adds cheesy notes but should be done after cooking to avoid burning.
Oven roasting is an alternative method at 400°F, requiring about 25-30 minutes and occasional stirring to achieve similar results. Proper drying of chickpeas before cooking helps obtain the best crispness.
Leftovers should be stored uncovered or with ample airflow at room temperature to avoid sogginess and maintain crunchiness for 4-5 days.
