Almond Brownies

These almond brownies combine melted chocolate chips and butter with sugar and eggs, enriched by cocoa powder, flour, and coarsely chopped almonds. The baked result is a soft, moist brownie with a subtle nutty crunch and a rich chocolate flavor balanced by almond texture.

Description

Almond Brownies start by whisking sugar, eggs, and vanilla, then incorporating melted butter mixed with melted chocolate chips. This creates a rich, liquid chocolate base. Dry ingredients including all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and chopped almonds are stirred in gently to form a thick batter. The mixture is spread evenly in a greased or parchment-lined pan.

Baking at 350°F for about 25 minutes yields brownies that remain soft and fudgy inside, with a tender crumb and scattered nutty bits from the almonds adding texture. The recipe suggests testing doneness with a toothpick — it should come out nearly clean but may have moist crumbs for ideal consistency.

Using cocoa powder in the flour mix deepens the chocolate flavor while the almonds provide contrast in bite and subtle flavor enhancement. Cooling the brownies slightly in the pan before removing helps maintain their shape and effect.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 c semi sweet chocolate chips I used Hershey's Chipits
  • ½ c butter If using unsalted, add ¼ teaspoon salt at this point, salted
  • 1 c granulated sugar
  • 2 egg Size Large
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¾ c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • ¾ c almonds coarsely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350'F and line a 9" square pan (or similar sized; 8x10, 9" round etc) with parchment or grease and flour. *Tip: If you are greasing and flouring your pan, dust with cocoa instead of flour to avoid white dusting on cake.
  2. In bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs and vanilla until fully mixed.
  3. Melt butter in a 2 c measuring cup until very hot. Stir in chocolate chips and let melt, stirring occasionally until melted and smooth.
  4. Add melted chocolate to sugar and egg mixture and stir until mixed well.
  5. In second measuring cup, measure and stir together flour, cocoa and almonds and then add immediately to warm chocolate mixture.  Stir gently until it is fully incorporated. (As the chocolate cools, the batter will feel thicker, this is ok)
  6. Spread evenly in pan and bake for approximately 25 minutes. They will still be soft when you take them out but test with a toothpick and when it just barely comes out clean, they are done. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then lift out onto cooling rack and serve warm or let cool then cut into squares.
