Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts Recipe
Description
The Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts are prepared from a batter made with flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, combined with buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla. Baking in a greased donut pan at 375°F for 10-12 minutes produces light, tender donuts with a cake-like interior.
After baking, the donuts are dipped in melted butter and then rolled in a cinnamon-sugar mixture, forming a sweet, slightly crunchy coating that enhances the warm spice flavors within the dough. This method eliminates the need for frying, offering a simpler and less oily preparation.
The spices provide a subtle warmth that complements the sugar coating, making these donuts suitable for breakfast or as a sweet snack. Their smaller size (six per batch) allows for straightforward portion sizing and sharing.
Doubling the recipe is common for having leftovers, which can be enjoyed the next day following the same coating process if desired.
