Baked Ziti (Freezer Friendly)

This Baked Ziti is comfort food at its very finest. Cheesy, gooey, with a tasty meat sauce, pasta, cheese and sour cream. Freezer friendly – this dish is a winner!

Ingredients

Servings

Meat sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large onions diced finely
  • 8 cloves garlic large minced
  • 2 pound ground beef
  • 48 ounces marinara sauce
  • salt & pepper
  • Italian seasoning to taste

Pasta

  • 1 pound dry ziti pasta

For assembly

  • 12 lices Provolone cheese
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese grated
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 4 ounces Parmesan cheese grated

Instructions

Meat sauce

  1. In a dutch oven, heat the oil and cook the onion until translucent.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the ground beef, and brown.
  4. Add the pasta sauce and seasonings, mix well.
  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Test for seasoning and adjust as necessary.

Pasta

  1. Cook the pasta until al dente and drain. Set aside for assembly.

Assembly

  1. In a 9×13 pan, layer ingredients in order
  2. Pasta
  3. Provolone
  4. Mozzarella
  5. Meat sauce
  6. Sour cream
  7. Then repeat:
  8. Pasta
  9. Provolone
  10. Mozzarella
  11. Meat sauce
  12. Parmesan

To eat immediately

  1. Bake in a preheated oven (350 degrees) for about 30 minutes, or until it bubbles around the top/sides.

To freeze

  1. Cool completely, and top with foil. Wrap with plastic wrap.
  2. Cooking from frozen
  3. Thaw, bake at 350 for 30-45 minutes or until bubbly around the top/sides.

  • I use a half size steam table pan for this - measurements are 12.5" L x 10.25" W x 2.5” H
  • Cool completely, and top with foil. Wrap with plastic wrap.
  • Cooking from frozen:
  • Bake in a preheated oven (350 degrees) for an hour, or until fully heated through.
