Ingredients
For the Shawarma
- 6 chicken thighs boneless, skinless
- 2 teaspoons cumin ground
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves ground
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 1 onion sliced
- lemon juice juice from 1 lemon
- 1/3 cup olive oil
For Serving
- 6 Pita bread pockets
- vegetable or salad, your favorite
- sauce your favorite
Instructions
- Whisk together the cumin, coriander, garlic powder, paprika, turmeric, and cloves in a small mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Pat the chicken dry and season with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Slice the chicken into small bite-sized pieces, then add to a large bowl.
- Add the shawarma seasoning and toss to coat.
- Add the onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. Toss everything to coat.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours or overnight.
- Remove the chicken from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425℉.
- Place the marinated chicken and onions onto a large baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for about 30 minutes or until cooked through.
- To serve, open pita pockets and spread with your favorite sauce. Add the chicken shawarma and vegetables. Serve and enjoy!
