Ingredients

  • 2 oz. freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 2 oz. freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup, or more if you prefer a sweeter marg
  • 1 1/2 oz. silver tequila or tequila of choice
  • pinch of kosher salt
  • margarita salt or Tajin for rim
  • 3-5 Ice cubes
  • splash of sparkling water optional for topping
  • garnish ideas: lime wedges, citrus twists, sliced blood oranges, etc.

Instructions

  1. Cut a notch in a lime wedge, then run the lime around the rim of a glass. Dip the edge of the rim into a plate of margarita salt or Tajin.
  2. Single drink: Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill it with ice. Shake until cold.
  3. Fill the prepared glass with ice, strain the margarita into the glass, top with sparkling water (optional), garnish, and serve.
  4. Pitcher: Place 1 ½ cups tequila, 3/4 cups orange juice, 3/4 cup blood orange juice, 1 cup Cointreau, 1 cup lime juice, ½ cup simple syrup in a pitcher. Add 3 large handfuls of ice and stir until cold. Top with sparkling water (optional). 
  5. Blended: add all ingredients into a blender, add ~1 cup of ice and blend until slushy, adjust ice/liquid as needed to get desired consistency. Pour into prepared glasses and serve!
