Blood Orange Mimosa

Blood Orange Mimosa is a vibrant cocktail mixing fresh blood orange juice with sweetener and chilled champagne. The bright, slightly tart juice combined with bubbly champagne creates a refreshing, visually striking drink. Optional fruit garnishes add a decorative and flavorful touch. It can be adapted with sparkling water or soda for a non-alcoholic version. The recipe allows adjusting sweetness based on the natural juice variations.

Description

The Blood Orange Mimosa starts by juicing fresh blood oranges, yielding a deep reddish-orange juice with a balance of tartness and sweetness. The juice is mixed with simple syrup or a sugar-water mixture to adjust sweetness according to taste and juice characteristics.

Once sweetened, the juice mixture is poured into a glass partially and topped with well-chilled champagne. Optional fruit slices or balls can be added to enhance the appearance and add subtle flavor from the garnishes.

This drink suits brunches, celebrations, or casual gatherings, offering a colorful twist on the classic mimosa. To create a non-alcoholic mocktail, replace champagne with sparkling water or a lemon-lime soda like 7-Up.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 1/2 cup blood orange juice from about 6-8 oranges.
  • 0-½ cup simple syrup or 1/3 cup each water and sugar, or to taste (see note, or sweetener
  • 1 bottle champagne well chilled, substitute fizzy water or 7-up style drink for alcohol free
  • Fruit optional balls or slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Juice the oranges.
  2. Prepare the fruit if using.
  3. Blend syrup with the simple syrup or sugar and water if using, until pulp is mostly broken up and sugar (if using) is dissolved.
  4. Fill the glass 1/4 -1/3 full with juice mixture. If you are using fruit, add it here. Top with champagne (or fizzy water or 7-up for mocktail).

Notes

  • The sweetness of blood orange juice varies; adjust simple syrup accordingly to balance tartness.
  • Full half cup of simple syrup yields about 1/2 ounce per serving; reduce for fewer calories or less sweetness.
  • Choose ripe blood oranges for juicier, more flavorful juice.
  • Make a mocktail by substituting champagne with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda.
