Blueberry Dump Cake

Blueberry Dump Cake is a simple dessert made by layering blueberry pie filling and fresh blueberries with dry cake mix and pats of butter, baked until golden and bubbly. This no-mix cake yields a textured topping over juicy fruit, delivering sweet-tart flavors and contrasting moistness and crispness. It’s ideal served warm, optionally with ice cream.

Description

Blueberry Dump Cake starts with a base of blueberry pie filling spread evenly in a baking pan, topped with a dry cake mix layer. Butter is dotted atop to moisten and bind the dry mix as it bakes, creating a lightly crunchy, golden crust. Fresh blueberries add bursts of natural sweetness and texture to the filling. Baking at 350°F for 45 minutes allows the cake topping to crisp and the filling to bubble through.

The resulting dessert balances sweet and tart flavors with contrasting textures between the crumbly golden top and juicy berry filling. It can be enjoyed warm as is or paired with vanilla ice cream to complement the fruitiness and richness. The recipe is forgiving and adaptable; pie filling cans slightly larger or smaller than called for still work well without affecting the cake much.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 box cake mix white or yellow
  • 3/4 cup butter unsalted
  • 2 oz cans blueberry pie filling
  • 2 cups blueberries fresh

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F and lightly grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
  2. Dump both cans of pie filling into the pan and spread it evenly so that no part of the bottom of the pan is visible. Use a spoon or measuring cup to sprinkle the dry cake mix over the blueberry filling. Do your best to cover the blueberries evenly.
  3. Add the butter in pats to cover the cake mix, then sprinkle in the fresh blueberries.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top looks golden brown. Serve warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

Notes

  • The recipe is flexible with the size of blueberry pie filling cans; slight variations in volume will not significantly affect the outcome.
