Brats in the Air Fryer

Cooking brats in the air fryer is probably the easiest, fastest method of preparing bratwurst. Either fresh or frozen, they will be ready in less than 15 minutes.

Instructions

Fresh brats:

  1. Preheat the air fryer if necessary. I must preheat mine for 3 minutes, but it depends on your machine (check its instructions).
  2. Arrange the sausages in the basket and rub or brush them with the oil. Cook between 8 and 12 minutes at 350°F/ 180°C, flipping halfway through or until they are brown and cooked through.6 uncooked brats + 1 tablespoon oil
  3. The internal temperature should be 160°F/ 71°C. Or cut one in the middle to check; it should not be pink anymore.

Frozen brats:

  1. Preheat the air fryer if necessary.
  2. Place the brats in the basket. If they stick together, cook for 7 minutes at 320°F/ 160°C first.
  3. Take them apart and arrange them (flipping them as well) in the basket with some space in between. Brush them with the oil.
  4. Cook for a further 7 minutes at 350°F/ 180°C or until the internal temperature is achieved.

Notes

  • Sausages:  I use bratwurst, but you can also cook different kinds of sausages, such as Italian or pork sausages. Ensure they are cooked through without being overdone by checking the internal temperature. The cooking time varies based on the type of sausage and its size.
