Instructions

  1. Spread the yellow cake mix in an even layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake at 350°F for 5 minutes, or until the temperture reaches 160°F. This will prevent possible foodborne illness from consuming raw flour. Set aside to cool.
  2. Pour the rice Chex in a large bowl.
  3. Melt the white chocolate according to package directions.
  4. Pour the melted white chocolate over the Chex, and gently stir to fully coat the Chex.
  5. Wait a couple of minutes for the chocolate to cool slightly, then gently stir in the sprinkles.
  6. Add in the yellow cake mix and powdered sugar, and gently toss the Chex to fully coat them in the mixture.

Notes

  • Storage: Store cake batter puppy chow in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • You can use different variations of melting chocolate, including white chocolate, dark chocolate, or milk chocolate to create different flavors.
  • When making a chocolate version of this puppy chow, consider using chocolate sprinkles instead of multicolored sprinkles.
  • To ensure that the cake mix and powdered sugar will coat the Chex, make sure to add it before the almond bark cools and hardens completely.
