Canelazo

Canelazo is a spiced alcoholic beverage based on aguardiente, that is consumed in the mountainous regions of Ecuador, Colombia and northern Argentina.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 6 cups of water
  • 8 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ cup panela , grated
  • aguardiente

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a medium size pot, except the aguardiente.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes.
  4. Incorporate the aguardiente and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a lighter canelazo: add 1 oz of aguardiente to each glass of canelazo.
  • For a standard canelazo: to add 1½ oz of aguardiente to each glass of canelazo.
  • For a stronger canelazo: add 2 oz of aguardiente to each glass of canelazo.
