Carne Asada Nachos

Carne Asada Nachos bring together marinated skirt steak with tortilla chips, cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, avocado, jalapeño, and queso blanco. The steak is quickly cooked with a blend of Mexican-inspired spices, layered on chips with cheese, then baked to melt. Toppings add freshness and creaminess, creating a bold, textured appetizer or snack.

Description

In Carne Asada Nachos, skirt steak is marinated briefly in soy sauce, lime juice, garlic, chili powder, cumin, and oregano before cooking in canola oil. The cooked steak is then spread over a bed of tortilla chips, sprinkled with extra-sharp cheddar cheese and pico de gallo, and baked until the cheese melts and the dish heats through.

The dish offers a balance of savory, tangy, and spicy flavors from the marinade and toppings. The cheddar adds sharp meltiness, while avocado, jalapeño, queso blanco, and fresh cilantro bring creaminess, heat, and bright herbaceous notes. The chips provide a crunchy base contrasting the soft steak and melted cheese.

These nachos serve well as a casual appetizer or shared snack, especially at gatherings. The layering and baking steps meld flavors while maintaining textural contrast. Toppings are added after baking for freshness and visual appeal.

  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 ½ pounds skirt steak cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 12 ounces tortilla chips
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese grated, extra-sharp

  • 1 jalapeño thinly sliced

  4. Place tortilla chips in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet. Top with steak, cheese and pico de gallo.
  5. Place into oven and bake until heated through and the cheese has melted, about 10-12 minutes.
  6. Serve immediately, topped with avocado, jalapeno, queso blanco and cilantro.
