Charcuterie Wreath
Description
This Charcuterie Wreath features a combination of cubed cheddar and dill havarti cheeses alongside mini salami slices, paired with fresh fruits including apples, strawberries, green grapes, and raspberries. The cheeses are cut into uniform cubes around half an inch to maintain integrity on skewers. Fresh fruits are washed and dried to avoid moisture. Bay leaves are arranged around the cake stand base to enhance presentation with greenery resembling a wreath.
Ingredients are skewered in a repeating sequence, then inserted into the core of an apple half to form a ring. The arrangement ensures the wreath is visually balanced and easy to pick from. Garnishes like rosemary sprigs and cranberry skewers add seasonal color and aroma. The assembly is customizable with different meats, cheeses, and produce, ideally avoiding soft or crumbly cheeses that do not handle well on skewers.
This wreath serves as an appealing appetizer or party centerpiece, combining savory and sweet flavors ideal for social occasions. Preparing the wreath in advance is possible by leaving apples unsliced or treating them with lemon juice to prevent browning. Using firm apples like Opal variety help reduce oxidation during setup and display.
Ingredients
- 2 apple
- 16 strawberries
- 16 green grapes
- 1 carton raspberry
- 16 lices mini salami
- 8 oz cheddar cheese block, raw
- 8 oz dill havarti cheese block
Instructions
- Start by preparing the fruit and cheese. Slice both cheeses into small cubes (about ½” - don’t slice them too small as they will break when slid on the skewer.) Wash the strawberries, raspberries, grapes and apples. Pat dry. Core one apple and dice into 16 pieces / cubes.
- Before assembling, layer bay leaves around the cake stand (towards the end so the greenery resembles a wreath). Slice the second apple in half and place in the center.
- Take a skewer and one piece of each ingredient and layer it on the stick. For efficiency, set up an assembly line of ingredients and go down the line. Rotate where the ingredients (specifically strawberries) are placed so one area of the wreath doesn’t get too crowded.
- After assembling each skewer, stick the end into the core of the center apple to ground it. Repeat until the wreath is made.
- Garnish with rosemary sprigs, skewers of fresh or sugared cranberries, and cookie cutter star cutouts of extra apple slices if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- You can customize this wreath with your favorite charcuterie ingredients, such as different meats, cheeses, fruits, or bread slices.
- Avoid very soft or crumbly cheeses like goat cheese for easier skewer assembly and eating.
- To prevent sliced apples from browning, sprinkle them with lemon juice or add them just before serving.
- Using firmer apple varieties such as Opal can help keep apple pieces fresh when prepping in advance.
