Cheeseburger Party Meatballs

Cheeseburger Party Meatballs combine ground beef seasoned with onion and garlic powders, black pepper, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and breadcrumbs, formed into balls and cooked. They are topped with processed cheese slices and a baby gherkin half, then microwaved to melt the cheese. Served warm with ketchup, they mimic cheeseburger flavors in a bite-sized form for gatherings.

Description

This recipe uses ground beef mixed with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, panko or regular breadcrumbs, and an egg to bind. After chilling to firm the mixture, meatballs are shaped by hand and pan-fried in batches until browned and cooked through.

Each cooked meatball is placed on a microwavable plate, topped with a square of processed cheese similar to those used in fast food cheeseburgers, and a halved baby gherkin is skewered on top with a toothpick. Microwaving for a short time melts the cheese and warms the gherkins.

These meatballs are served warm alongside ketchup for dipping. They replicate the flavors and components of a cheeseburger in a portable, party-friendly format. The method emphasizes managing oil during pan cooking and choosing processed cheese for an authentic fast food cheese flavor.

Ingredients

Servings

Meatballs

  • 500 g / 1 lb ground beef ground beef
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or 3/4 cup normal breadcrumbs)
  • 1 egg

Assembling

  • 1 tbsp neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
  • 6 - 8 processed cheese slices (Note 1)
  • gherkin baby
  • ketchup , to serve

Instructions

  1. Place Meatball ingredients in a bowl and use your hands to combine.
  2. Refrigerate for 30 minutes (firms up, easier to handle). If in a rush, add more breadcrumbs until mixture is roll-able.
  3. Scoop up heaped tablespoons and dollop onto work surface with the flick of the wrist. Repeat with remaining mixture. Then roll into balls.
  4. Cut cheese into small squares to top each meatball.
  5. Cut larger gherkins in half, lengthwise.
  6. Heat oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Add meatballs in batches and cook, shaking the pan so they roll around, until browned all over and cooked through - 5 minutes. Between batches, drain excess oil (but keep some to cook next batch).
  7. Place cooked meatballs on a large plate that fits in your microwave. Top with cheese and a gherkin and secure with a toothpick.
  8. Microwave for 60 - 90 seconds or until cheese melts. Serve warm with ketchup!

Notes

  • Processed cheese slices similar to fast food cheeseburgers recreate the authentic flavor well.
  • If the mixture is too soft, additional breadcrumbs help achieve a roll-able consistency.
  • Use toothpicks to secure cheese and gherkins for easy serving and eating.
