Cheesy Garlic Bread

Cheesy Garlic Bread is made by slicing Italian bread, brushing it with melted butter mixed with garlic powder, and baking until soft and warm. Topped with shredded mozzarella cheese and baked again to melt and brown the cheese, the bread becomes a savory, buttery side with a golden crust and melted cheese topping. An optional garlic herb butter adds extra flavor before serving.

Description

This recipe transforms a loaf of Italian bread into a flavorful side dish by cutting it lengthwise and brushing the cut surface generously with melted unsalted butter combined with garlic powder. The bread is baked to allow the butter and garlic to infuse and warm the bread without drying it out. At the halfway point, the bread is uncovered, and shredded mozzarella cheese is added on top, then returned to the oven until the cheese melts and forms light brown spots.

The final product features a crisp, buttery crust from the initial baking and a gooey, slightly browned cheesy layer that adds richness and texture. Optional garlic herb butter can be brushed on top after baking to increase the garlic flavor and provide a fresh herb aroma.

This cheesy garlic bread pairs well with pasta dishes, soups, or salads, serving as a comforting accompaniment with its inviting texture and flavor.

  • 1/2 cup butter melted, unsalted
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • butter optional, garlic herb

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the bread lengthwise and place it face up on the baking sheet. Brush the surface with the melted butter, then sprinkle with the garlic powder.
  3. Cover with a piece of aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven, uncover the foil, and sprinkle the cheese on top of the bread. Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and brown spots start to form.

Notes

  • Garlic herb butter is optional but brings additional flavor complexity to the cheesy garlic bread.
