Cheesy Garlic Cruffin

The Cheesy Garlic Cruffin features crescent roll dough layered with a garlic and chive butter mixture and mild cheddar cheese, then rolled into individual spiral pastries. Baking in a muffin tin shapes them into rich, flaky spirals with a golden crust and gooey cheese inside. The garlic butter enhances the mild cheddar filling for a savory bite. These croissant-like rolls combine tender layers with a flavorful cheesy filling, making a satisfying snack or accompaniment to meals.

Description

Cheesy Garlic Cruffin begins with refrigerated crescent roll dough rolled into rectangles and layered with a soft butter spread blended with finely chopped chives and minced garlic. A generous sprinkling of shredded mild cheddar cheese tops the buttered dough before it is tightly rolled and cut into sections. Each section is then twisted and shaped into spirals resembling cinnamon rolls but made savory with garlic and cheese.

Baking them in a muffin tin helps retain their shape and ensures even browning. The result is a flaky, buttery pastry with melted cheddar pockets and a garlicky herb flavor. The crust develops a slightly crisp exterior while the interior remains soft and cheesy.

These pastries are versatile for serving at brunch, as a savory snack alongside soup or salad, or as an appetizer. The combination of garlic, chives, and cheddar provides a rich, mellow flavor profile that complements the flaky dough layers. They are best enjoyed warm to appreciate the melted cheese texture and buttery aroma.

Ingredients

Servings

Dough

  • 3 tubes crescent roll dough refrigerated, 8 ounces each

Filling

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tablespoon Chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • 3 cups mild cheddar cheese shredded, divided, 339 g

Garlic Butter

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Chives, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

Dough

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly spray a standard 12-cup muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. Working on a lightly floured work surface, roll out each tube of dough to a 12x16-inch rectangle. (We used crescent roll sheets; if you use perforated crescent roll dough, be sure to pinch the seams to seal.)

Filling

  1. In a medium bowl combine butter, chives, and garlic.
  2. Spread about ⅓ of the butter mixture over the top of one sheet of dough.
  3. Sprinkle 1 cup of the cheddar cheese evenly over the butter mixture.
  4. Starting on the long end of the dough sheet, tightly roll it up into a log.
  5. Cut the log in half, creating two shorter logs.
  6. Cut each of those shorter logs in half lengthwise, giving you four sections of dough.
  7. Repeat with the remaining two sheets of dough. You will have 12 sections of dough.
  8. Working one section of dough at a time with the layered side facing out, roll it tightly into a cinnamon roll shape, tucking in the end piece of dough.
  9. Place into the prepared muffin tin. Repeat with the remaining 11 sections.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. While the cruffins are baking, prepare the garlic butter.

Garlic Butter

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, garlic, chives, and salt.
  2. Brush the butter topping over the warm rolls.
